Thanksgiving in Hainan

I talked to one of my friends last week and I asked her what she was doing for Thanksgiving. She said she was going to her mother’s house to spend the day with her family. I said,”Oh! You must be so excited!”. Normally I would have offered an apathetic, “Oh, that’s nice.” But not in China where grandma’s turkey is miles away and I'm faced with the street purchase of a deep fried chicken that’s still looking at me when it’s dropped in the pot. Luckily I planned a trip to Hainan islands and was able to prolong eating that street bird. Hainan is located on the warm and sunny southern tip of china and proved to be a much needed break from the busy-hazy streets of Shanghai. I spent three days swimming in the ocean with friends, reading on the beach, and enjoyed every minute of sunshine and blues skies. It was perfect.
